New Music Review: Georgel: ‘Colibrí’

'Colibrí' highlights Georgel’s potential as a superstar in the making.

It is always an honour and a pleasure to receive new music to check out and review; especially when it's as enjoyable a listening experience as Georgel’s ‘Colibri’.

A slice of swaggering, sensual, big band pop, ‘Colibri’ is a superb offering from the singer songwriter.

A slice of swaggering, sensual, big band pop, ‘Colibri’ is a superb offering from the singer songwriter.
‘Colibrí’ immediately demands listener attention thanks to punchy horn stabs, satisfying drum fills and Georgel’s strong vocals.  Listener attention is maintained throughout due to the athletic and theatrical flair of both vocals and instrumentation. These theatrics never descend into ham or kitsch.

The hook is slinky and sensual, adding an extra layer to an already super-enjoyable cut. The memorable arrangement and vocals, together with professional mixing and mastering mean the song would be as much at home in a big-budget Hollywood musical or Broadway show as it would be on your favourite music streaming service.

Sexy and tasteful, funky, fun and polished, ‘Colibrí’ shows Georgel is a superstar in the making.

About Georgel: 'Colibrí'

‘As a producer you hope to work with artists who possess nice talent and have something to say. Georgel fits that description. The juxtaposition of classic pop songwriting combined with earnest lyrics about universal love is what makes his music fresh and unique”.

-Sebastian Kryss
(Five-time Grammy and 12-time Latin Grammy winner)

'Colibrí' is a song written by GEORGEL narrating the sensual part of his encounter with the love of his life ingeniously personified by mythical bird. Producers Sebastian Krys y& Lineu Andrade, teamed up with iconic musicians Korey Riker (The Roots / John Legend), Jeff Babko (James Taylor / Sheryl Crow), Lee Levin (Barry Gibb, Alejandro Sanz, Calle 13) creating along with Georgel’s vocals a record transforming 70’s funk & soul into a sophisticated classic of this era.

Georgel’s Music formative years started at the age of 12 studying Bel-Canto with renowned Mezzo-Soprano Martha Felix and took a radical shift at the age of 15 when he was awarded a full ride scholarship to Berklee College of Music where he focused in Songwriting and Performance. His years in Boston allowed him to collaborate and share stage with fellow students Esperanza Spalding among others.

At 22 he moved to LA to pursue a successful songwriting career and some of biggest latin stars such as Gloria Trevi have recorded his songs. It wasn’t long until Music Mogul Sebastian Krys discovered him as an artist and started developing a new sound for latin music’s future.

“Colibrí” is the second song released of his upcoming album project “Rio” set to be released in 2019.

Common Music Making Terms

The world of music making is full of esoteric words, phrases, acronyms and abbreviations, some of the more frequently used ones are explained here.   ADSR envelope – Acronym. For ‘Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release’, the four parts of a waveform. Essential to understand if you want to not only sample or play sounds as they are, but also manipulate and tailor sounds from drum hits through to synthesizers:  Attack time, the time of the initial increase from zero to peak, starting from the key being pressed. Decay time, the time taken for the following decrease from attack to the sustain level. Sustain level, the level of the main sequence of the sound’s duration, this is until the key is released. Release time, the time taken to go from sustain level back to zero once the key is released. Analogue – Non digital / pre digital processes and equipment. An obvious example of analogue technology is tape.   ASIO – Abv. For Audio Stream Input – Output, a very pop...
